New logo

Image
This is our new logo. After much thought, we wanted to have a second logo that looks a little more professional than our previous logo. This one will be for our website and for anything we have to use professionally. The other logo we have could be used for the merchandise because it is going to be more eye-catching on the black of our merchandise. The gold and silver will stand out more than this logo and will still be good for marketing. The new logo above is more simple and still alludes to the acting, directing and also the technical side with the illuminating of the directors chair. Having the simple black and white image is simple but effective with the gradient, so it adds a little flair to it. My partner and I have agreed on this to be our main logo, but also keep the other one to add a little personality to the merchandise. We want to be able to include both logos as they both represent who we are as a business, this one being more for the older students and the other one r...

Monologue part 5

This was my final recording of my monologue. During this process, I have settled into the role well and learnt about the character and how she would respond to the person in front of her. The improvised part at the beginning allowed me to get into character and be able to show that she is already impatient and sarcastic towards Jessie. This also made the monologue flow a lot better than before and this made me fall into the character so much easier than I had in the first few run throughs. Video one feedback: This was so much better than the previous ones. I liked how you transitioned between writing and talking. This felt more like a therapist talking than previously, which is the character. You looked more in character and the tone of your voice was really strong. Video two feedback: This was again, better. I liked how you pointed to where she was supposed to sit. I’m not sure, but it feels as if you start from nowhere, there isn’t something that makes you start talking s...

Monologue part 4

This was my best recording of my monologue so far. This is because I am becoming a lot more confident with the lines and not having to think too much about them when saying them. It is becoming a lot more natural and easier for me to fall into the character. It is good for me because I have now ran it a good few times and my body language is becoming more for the character. Video one: This was the best out of all of them. I liked how you started it off by huffing. I like how you smiled because you looked a little evil, like a bully. You came closer to the camera which I liked too. Try using a pen and point at her with it when you direct some things to her. You are getting better, well done. This feedback has been the best out of all of the videos I have sent to my partner. She is giving me some things that I could add in to help the character development and something that I can do with my hands instead of staying still the whole time. I also need to work on my posture because m...

Monologue part 3

This the first time that I am recording my monologue without using the script in my hand. I also decided to try sitting down, as this is how a therapist office would be set up, so this helped me get into character a lot easier. There are still some lines that I am getting confused because I have not ran it enough times to have the lines perfectly in my head, but not having the script in my hand means that I can use my hands to gesture and give more life to the character. I feel as if Carla may have a few hand gestures and so I can play with this when I record it next time.  Video one: The first one was much better than before. I felt that you were more into character. I liked how you addressed it but maybe try and have paper in your hands and maybe try and have paper in your hands and maybe start off the first few lines looking at it and taking notes and then look at her? That is something to play about with.  Video two: The second one, again was better. I liked how y...

Monologue part 2

This is the third time that I have recorded my monologue and this time I tried a different tone than the one I had used this time. This time I was quieter and a little more sarcastic than before, which I felt fitted the character and the situation better than the video before. The feedback I got from my partner was: I like how you said some of it, like you said it factual. When you said ‘you don’t want to die, you just want affection’, you could say it a little more factual. You also seem really still, could you maybe try sitting down? Or if you are going to stand, try and make use of the space. I need to make sure that I am learning the lines because the monologue was at a much slower pace than it should have been due to looking down at the paper. The flow was lost and the rhythm that I had created was ruined too, so the effect of the monologue was not as good as it should have been after watching it. I also need to work on how I am standing because it does not give off the st...

Monologue part 1

This is a link to the monologue and the terms of use, stating that I am allowed to use this monologue as long as I am not receiving money for performing it- http://notmyshoes.net/monologues/carla.html This was my time reading through my monologue when on camera. This monologue is my style of acting because I prefer doing something a little more of a dramatic monologue than something that is comedy or light hearted. The synopsis of the monologue is that the character I am playing, Carla, is a therapist who is talking to a young girl called Jessie. Carla is unsympathetic to Jessie about her suicide attempt and this is what her response is to hearing Jessie's story. I sent the videos to my partner, who is running the theatre company with me and asked her for some advice on how I can improve it when I do my next run through: Video 1: I liked how you spoke it but maybe try and be more forceful with some of the words you say? Is the camera the person? If so, try and get closer...

Workshops I have attended

The story from the Jonnie Bayfield workshop.

Segregated The two girls sat segregated within the glass box, suspended 50 feet above ground. The two single chains creek helplessly as the two girls sit in silence. Molly, the brash brat leans against the smaller glass panel, making the box sway in time with her heart beat. Roxi, the diffident doubter, rocks back and fourth, the fear beginning to hit her. “C-can you stop moving?” Roxi stammered “Oh well, if you don’t like it…” Molly smirks, leaning forward and throwing the mass of her body against the panel. In slow motion, the glass began to spiderweb. The illusion of a broken phone screen happening in front of them. “T-the glass…” Roxi stared at the panel behind Molly’s head. The single flick of Molly’s hair explodes the glass, making it fall like a flurry of tiny diamonds, the sound echoing through the box. “What the fuck?!” Molly crawled over to Roxi. The box wavers. “Now look what you’ve done! I told you to stop!” Roxi clutched her chest, the panic rising in her lungs. ...

Budget sheet

This is our budget sheet that my partner and I had worked on together. Some of these costs such as the camera and laptop are going to be a one time purchase and therefore in the next yearly budget sheet, this can be taken off which will increase our income even more. The ticket sales and the merchandise were rough estimates because we have not made them yet, or we have not sold anything yet. This means out of the maximum number of students, this is what we had thought about them buying or the ratio of family and friend to the general public for ticket sales. This can always be edited as well when the actual numbers come in for the sales, but this is a starter for us and our sheet. We had originally looked at a different venue (The Marina Theatre in Lowestoft), however when looking at the prices of hiring the venue, it would cost too much for us to even consider it a possible venue. Using that venue, we would have put ourselves at a negative and this would not become a sustainable b...

Work experience at The Seagull Theatre

The Seagull Theatre with The Keeper’s Daughter- 19th September 2019- This was the first day of my work experience at The Seagull Theatre. This is with the theatre company The Keeper’s Daughter, who were putting on a production of Hound of the Baskervilles. On this day, I got a tour of the theatre, including looking at the costume department and where a lot of the props are made. They make most of their own props as well, so there is a diverse range that could be used for many different productions. For example, there was a couple of lights made for the production of Hound of the Baskervilles, which were made from milk jugs and torches. I also saw where all the lights are kept for different productions and the different types of lights that are available to be used when putting on a production at The Seagull. After looking around the theatre, I came back and watched the rehearsal of the script. This was good for me to watch because I realized that although there was a director, he d...

Feedback from peers

Image
Overall, the feedback we got for our business was very positive. The overall concept was well loved and it was called 'inclusive' by almost everyone. This is important for our business to be inclusive because there are some theatre companies that do not allow over 17-18's to join their theatre groups, but we want to make a place for everyone to come and enjoy themselves. The idea was called unique too, which is what we want. We did not want the business to be something that all theatre companies do, but where the students can gain different experiences and opportunities rather than just acting. Our mission and vision statement were also well delivered. This is because it is achievable to get and realistic. We do not want to set ourselves a goal which is not fully achievable for our business and may give those who are joining false hope about what we are going to do and show them. 'It suits your enterprise ad is very achievab...

Website research of other businesses

These are the businesses that I have taken inspiration from for my own business website, which is a theatre company. Therefore all the businesses I have looked at are theatre companies. These have been used as inspiration because they are local or well known theatre companies that have a lot of traffic to their websites. We have taken the inspiration for the merch and online shopping from Frantic Assembly because this is where they sell all of their merch and this would help spread the word of our business to other people who will see the hoodie's and the shirts. This is also why we want to make the t-shirts into a 'uniform' for the theatre group because if we go out on trips, then more people can know who we are and what we do with the students. This would be a good way for us to market ourselves to others who are not in the local area where we are having the business. We have taken inspiration from Highly Sprung by the basic layout of our website. This is because it is ...

My SWOT analysis

Website design

The feedback we gained from this was that the design was simple enough for all ages to use and those who may not have the best knowledge of how to use technology. The type of layout we have used is called a Fixed Sidebar and this is best for educational and organisational websites to keep everything simple enough to be used. The colour choice is black, gold and silver. This is because this is the colour of our logo and it is a very professional colour choice. It also relates back to education because of gold and silver, the idea that the students are going to 'get the gold' from coming to our group. The font choice has not been made yet, which is something we need to decide. It needs to be accessible for everyone to be able to read and the colour needs to pop on the background of the light silver or gold, depending which way round we decide to have it. There also needs to be a space on each page that allows for a large image that represents what is going to be on that page. T...

My business canvas and business plan!

Mine and my partner's overall business idea is that we wanted to create a theatre group, however it does not just focus on acting. It also focuses on how to be a director, how to tech a performance, how to do set design and costume design. All of these are fundamental roles within the theatre and without these roles, then productions would cease to exist. Us as a company want to allow students to branch out and look at all the different roles that they could see themselves in for their future.

Business plans of my three case studies

Logo research and design development

When looking at the logo for our business, we wanted to have something that was unique for us and not just the name of the business. This was compared to other theatre companies such as Highly Sprung who simply have their name on the top of their website and it is in a font that starts off bold and then goes into the normal font. This was not unique enough for us and we wanted to stand out from the other youth theatre companies as a company that is fun and exciting to be a part of. The idea behind the spotlight was the concept of acting (being in the spotlight) but also the technical side of what we are teaching too (the light itself). This is important for the business because that is exactly what we are doing. We are not just teaching acting, but the whole concept of the different roles within the theatre. The logo itself went through a few changes, the main one being the actual font of the name of the business. This is because after asking a few different people, some having dysl...
