Logo research and design development
When looking at the logo for our business, we wanted to have something that was unique for us and not just the name of the business. This was compared to other theatre companies such as Highly Sprung who simply have their name on the top of their website and it is in a font that starts off bold and then goes into the normal font. This was not unique enough for us and we wanted to stand out from the other youth theatre companies as a company that is fun and exciting to be a part of. The idea behind the spotlight was the concept of acting (being in the spotlight) but also the technical side of what we are teaching too (the light itself). This is important for the business because that is exactly what we are doing. We are not just teaching acting, but the whole concept of the different roles within the theatre.
The logo itself went through a few changes, the main one being the actual font of the name of the business. This is because after asking a few different people, some having dyslexia (this was important for us to see if those with dyslexia could read it so it was accessible for everyone), and this was the main point of feedback. The fonts we had chosen were not easily read by everyone and this was the most important point for us to change. This is then why there is a lot of focus on the font on the logo because this is going to be telling everyone who we are and it needs to be clear but still have some flare and originality to keep us unique from everyone else.
The other points that we wanted to change and make more defined were the silver at the top and the gold around the font. This is because this was then giving some more definition to the logo and therefor making it seem less flat. Adding the silver and the gold were given to us as feedback to give it something more than a simple grey colour or a bland yellow. The metallic of the silver also makes the light at the top pop and will give that idea that we are not just teaching acting, but we will help with the technical side (lights and sound). There were a few different golds that we tried for the bottom of the light, but the one we chose was really the only one that came across as what you would find in a spotlight. The idea for having the gold too is to highlight the educational side and 'going for the gold', which is also the colour scheme of our website. We want to make sure that everything flows together and does not look too separated from each other.
