Monologue part 3

This the first time that I am recording my monologue without using the script in my hand. I also decided to try sitting down, as this is how a therapist office would be set up, so this helped me get into character a lot easier. There are still some lines that I am getting confused because I have not ran it enough times to have the lines perfectly in my head, but not having the script in my hand means that I can use my hands to gesture and give more life to the character. I feel as if Carla may have a few hand gestures and so I can play with this when I record it next time.

Video one: The first one was much better than before. I felt that you were more into character. I liked how you addressed it but maybe try and have paper in your hands and maybe try and have paper in your hands and maybe start off the first few lines looking at it and taking notes and then look at her? That is something to play about with.

Video two: The second one, again was better. I liked how you came forward that was more menacing and more direct with what you were saying. I liked how you said ‘and no kid should...’, I liked how that came across. I just feel like with each video, you are becoming more in character. I think you started too soon like you didn’t give yourself enough time to get in the mindset, but if that feels better for you then go ahead.

This feedback was really important to me because I do feel that I need something in my hand to embody that therapist role more. There is a time for me to improv a little before the monologue starts, like telling Jessie to come in and take a seat. This will give me time to get into character and have the mindset that I am the therapist and this is how I feel. Sitting down has also allowed me to change my posture and show parts of the monologue that have different energy, since there is a change of emotion quite a bit in the monologue. The development of my monologue is going to help with my business because I am going to be ale to help the students develop their own performances and monologues, especially for auditions and performances. This is going to help them become better actors and also for them to be able to take feedback positively.
