Work experience at The Seagull Theatre

The Seagull Theatre with The Keeper’s Daughter- 19th September 2019- This was the first day of my work experience at The Seagull Theatre. This is with the theatre company The Keeper’s Daughter, who were putting on a production of Hound of the Baskervilles. On this day, I got a tour of the theatre, including looking at the costume department and where a lot of the props are made. They make most of their own props as well, so there is a diverse range that could be used for many different productions. For example, there was a couple of lights made for the production of Hound of the Baskervilles, which were made from milk jugs and torches. I also saw where all the lights are kept for different productions and the different types of lights that are available to be used when putting on a production at The Seagull. After looking around the theatre, I came back and watched the rehearsal of the script. This was good for me to watch because I realized that although there was a director, he d...

Feedback from peers

Image
Overall, the feedback we got for our business was very positive. The overall concept was well loved and it was called 'inclusive' by almost everyone. This is important for our business to be inclusive because there are some theatre companies that do not allow over 17-18's to join their theatre groups, but we want to make a place for everyone to come and enjoy themselves. The idea was called unique too, which is what we want. We did not want the business to be something that all theatre companies do, but where the students can gain different experiences and opportunities rather than just acting. Our mission and vision statement were also well delivered. This is because it is achievable to get and realistic. We do not want to set ourselves a goal which is not fully achievable for our business and may give those who are joining false hope about what we are going to do and show them. 'It suits your enterprise ad is very achievab...

Website research of other businesses

These are the businesses that I have taken inspiration from for my own business website, which is a theatre company. Therefore all the businesses I have looked at are theatre companies. These have been used as inspiration because they are local or well known theatre companies that have a lot of traffic to their websites. We have taken the inspiration for the merch and online shopping from Frantic Assembly because this is where they sell all of their merch and this would help spread the word of our business to other people who will see the hoodie's and the shirts. This is also why we want to make the t-shirts into a 'uniform' for the theatre group because if we go out on trips, then more people can know who we are and what we do with the students. This would be a good way for us to market ourselves to others who are not in the local area where we are having the business. We have taken inspiration from Highly Sprung by the basic layout of our website. This is because it is ...

My PESTLE analysis

My SWOT analysis

Website design

The feedback we gained from this was that the design was simple enough for all ages to use and those who may not have the best knowledge of how to use technology. The type of layout we have used is called a Fixed Sidebar and this is best for educational and organisational websites to keep everything simple enough to be used. The colour choice is black, gold and silver. This is because this is the colour of our logo and it is a very professional colour choice. It also relates back to education because of gold and silver, the idea that the students are going to 'get the gold' from coming to our group. The font choice has not been made yet, which is something we need to decide. It needs to be accessible for everyone to be able to read and the colour needs to pop on the background of the light silver or gold, depending which way round we decide to have it. There also needs to be a space on each page that allows for a large image that represents what is going to be on that page. T...

My business canvas and business plan!

Mine and my partner's overall business idea is that we wanted to create a theatre group, however it does not just focus on acting. It also focuses on how to be a director, how to tech a performance, how to do set design and costume design. All of these are fundamental roles within the theatre and without these roles, then productions would cease to exist. Us as a company want to allow students to branch out and look at all the different roles that they could see themselves in for their future.

Business plans of my three case studies

Logo research and design development

When looking at the logo for our business, we wanted to have something that was unique for us and not just the name of the business. This was compared to other theatre companies such as Highly Sprung who simply have their name on the top of their website and it is in a font that starts off bold and then goes into the normal font. This was not unique enough for us and we wanted to stand out from the other youth theatre companies as a company that is fun and exciting to be a part of. The idea behind the spotlight was the concept of acting (being in the spotlight) but also the technical side of what we are teaching too (the light itself). This is important for the business because that is exactly what we are doing. We are not just teaching acting, but the whole concept of the different roles within the theatre. The logo itself went through a few changes, the main one being the actual font of the name of the business. This is because after asking a few different people, some having dysl...
